I’m Emily Michelle Smith, founder of Love 4 Learning and a full-time American Sign Language teacher at American Leadership Academy (ALA), where I’ve been teaching grades 8–12 since 2022. I launched Love 4 Learning in July 2020 with my husband to provide accessible ASL instruction and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a passion project has grown into a full tutoring network, offering personalized ASL and academic support, including for students with special needs.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies from Utah Valley University and a Master’s degree in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University. My professional background includes working as a certified ASL interpreter at Utah Valley University and Alpine School District, as well as many years as a teacher’s aide in Deaf education. I’ve also served as a High Needs Case Manager for Jewish Family and Children’s Services, supporting at-risk youth.
As a U.S. Army veteran, I proudly served in Iraq and was promoted to Sergeant before receiving a medical retirement due to a service-related injury.
I’m also a mom of 12 in a large, blended family—including several children with special needs. This personal experience deeply informs the way I teach, tutor, and support families.
Whether you’re looking for ASL instruction, special education support, or a caring and qualified tutor for your child, I’d love to help you find the right fit. At Love 4 Learning, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, understood, and capable of success.
